NATHAN R. EVERY, M.D., MPH

General Partner, Frazier Healthcare Ventures in Seattle, WA.

Dr. Every is a cardiologist who has been with Frazier healthcare since 1999, became a partner in 2001 and General Partner in 2005. Dr. Every is responsible for evaluating opportunities in the medical device and biotech sectors. He was integral to the formation of SyneCor, a first-of-its-kind accelerator company backed by researchers, corporations, clinicians and a leading investment bank. He founded and was start-up CEO for MacuSight, an ocular disease therapy company that was incubated at Frazier Healthcare. Dr. Every currently serves on the boards of directors at Apneon, Inc., BaroSense, Inc., BARRx, Inc., FlowCardia, Interventional Rhythm Management, Juniper, MacuSight, PowerVision, SyneCor LLC, and Xoft Microtube. He is also an observer on the boards of Alexza Pharmaceuticals and FoviOptics, Inc. Prior to joining the Frazier Healthcare, Dr. Every was an associate professor of medicine and the director of the Cardiovascular Outcomes Research Center (CORC) at the University of Washington, where he performed multiple studies evaluating the costs and outcomes of new procedures and pharmaceutical agents. His findings have been published in more than 75 scientific articles, including The New England Journal of Medicine, JAMA and The Lancet. Dr. Every earned an M.D. from Emory University School of Medicine and a master of public health (M.P.H.) degree from the University of Washington School of Public Health, and he is board certified in internal medicine and cardiovascular medicine.

ERIC W. LINSLEY

Partner, Pappas Ventures in Research Triangle Park, NC.

Eric is an experienced operating executive and venture capital investor who prior to joining Pappas in 2000 served as Chief Financial Officer of TriPath Imaging, Inc. (Nasdaq: TPTH), a medical device company. Eric played a key role in the three-way merger between AutoCyte, NeoPath and Neuromedical Systems that created TriPath. Prior to the merger, he served as Chief Financial Officer and Vice President of Operations at AutoCyte where he led the company in a successful public equity offering in 1997. From 1991 to 1997, Eric worked as an investment professional with Ampersand Ventures, a leading venture capital firm based in Boston. As a partner at Ampersand, he held interim management positions in operating and financial roles for various industrial products and healthcare companies. He previously served as a management consultant with Bain & Co. and McKinsey & Co., and was a certified public accountant with Arthur Andersen LLP.

GAURAV AGGARWAL, MD

Principal, J.P. Morgan Partners, LLC

Dr. Aggarwal is a principal in the firm and focuses on life sciences investments.  He joined JPMorgan Partners in 2004. From 1999 to 2004, he was employed by KBL Healthcare Ventures, most recently as Vice President, where he also focused on venture capital investments in biopharmaceutical and medical device companies. Dr. Aggarwal was involved with KBL's investments in Avalon Pharmaceuticals, ISTA Pharmaceuticals, Neuronetics, and Spinal Concepts, and was a board observer at each company. He was also involved with KBL's investments in Achillion Pharmaceuticals, Corixa Corporation and Scynexis. From 1997 to 1999, Dr. Aggarwal was in the venture capital group at Wasserstein Perella & Co. Dr. Aggarwal received his M.D. from Columbia University, College of Physicians & Surgeons and his B.S. in Business Management from Cornell University. He currently serves on the board of directors of Piramed Limited and Flowcardia, and is a board observer at Innovative Spinal Technologies, Kemia and Presidio Pharmaceuticals. He previously served on the board of directors at Microscience Investments Limited.

MARK T. STAUTBERG

 

Mark is an experienced Medical Device Executive in the interventional cardiology field. Most recently, Stautberg served as Senior Vice President, Sales for Boston Scientific where he was responsible for all of the sales activities in the Cardiology, Peripheral and Vascular Surgery businesses, including the commercialization of Boston's Taxus drug-eluting stent. Prior to his 13 year career at Boston, Stautberg spent 8 years at Baxter Healthcare in a variety of positions of increasing responsibility.

 

ARTHUR FRANKEN

Partner, Gilde Healthcare Partners in The Netherlands

Arthur joined Gilde Healthcare Partners in 2001. He became investment manager in 2005 and partner in 2006. He has been involved in numerous investments and divestments including Ablynx, Agendia, AMT, BG Medicine, IDEA, Neuro3D and Pieris. Arthur led the investments in the US-based companies Conatus Pharmaceuticals and FlowCardia. Arthur serves on the board of FlowCardia and observed on the boards of Agendia and Amsterdam Molecular Therapeutics. Prior to joining Gilde, Arthur was involved in cardiovascular research at TNO in the Netherlands where he focused research on atherogenesis and the role of apoptosis in plaque stability. He holds a masters degree in Biopharmaceutical Sciences from Leiden University, the Netherlands. He specialized in molecular toxicology at the departments of Toxicology and Biopharmacy of the Leiden/Amsterdam Center for Drug Research. He is a Dutch national.

FOUAD AZZAM

General Partner, Life Sciences Partners in Cambridge, MA

Fouad Azzam, Ph.D., M.B.A., joined LSP as General Partner in early 2007. He is based out of LSP's US offices in Boston, MA and is responsible for the firm's investments in North America. Prior to joining LSP, Dr. Azzam was Managing Director of Eastman Ventures where he built the Life Sciences, and Advanced Materials & Devices practices. In his role as Managing Director, he was not only responsible for early and late stage investments across the US & Europe, but also for the overall investment strategy and launch of several new business platforms. Prior to his role at Eastman Ventures, Dr. Azzam held senior leadership positions at Eastman Chemical Company including roles in Innovation, Strategy, Corporate Development (M&A), and New Business Development.  His career also includes business, operating, and technology roles at Occidental Chemical and BFGoodrich. Dr. Azzam's academic credentials include a Ph.D. in Chemical Engineering from the University of Akron in Ohio, and an M.B.A. in finance & strategy from the University of Buffalo in New York.  Dr. Azzam currently serves on the boards of directors at FlowCardia, Inc. and Pasteuria Bioscience, Inc., and is an observer on the board of BioProcessors Corporation.

FRANK T. GENTILE PhD 

Senior Vice President, Research, Hambrecht & Quist Capital Management

Dr. Frank T. Gentile joined Hambrecht & Quist Capital Management in September 2002 as Vice President, Research; his emphasis is on the analysis of private and public companies in the fields of Functional Genomics and Proteomics,  Cell and Gene Therapy, Oncology and Cardiovascular Disease. Previously Frank was Vice President, Technology Program Management at Millennium Pharmaceuticals. At Millennium, Frank was responsible for management of all technology platform development programs. Prior to joining Millennium, Dr. Gentile was Vice President of Product Development at Curis, Inc., a biotechnology company in Cambridge developing products in the area of Regenerative Medicine. From 1997 to 2000 he was Director and then Vice President, Program Management at Reprogenesis, Inc. From 1990 – 1997 he was employed at CytoTherapeutics, Inc, where he held several scientific and management positions. Dr. Gentile received a B.E. degree in Chemical Engineering from The Cooper Union and a Ph.D. in Chemical Engineering from MIT. Prior to working in industry, he was a post-doctoral fellow at the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology (ETH) in Zurich, Switzerland. He is also an Adjunct Associate Professor of Biotechnology at Brown University. He has written over 120 peer reviewed publications and holds 30 US patents in the area of biotechnology.
